I had gotten a reckless about 2 months ago and just went to court last week. First thing if you want it dropped or a lesser charge is to get a lawyer. I talked to several and the prices ranged from $300-$1200 to represent me in court. I went with the $300 guy which turned out alright. He recommended I take the driver improvement class, so definitely do that. He also asked to get a calibration done on my speedometer, I was only 1mph off. Regardless, I went into court and got the reckless lowered to improper driving and a $100 fine. The judge said that taking the driver improvement class is what helped me out because I went in there with +5 points. I would hire a lawyer for a couple hundred and you can get a lesser charge and save $$$ on your insurance. Since I was being charged with reckless I felt I had to get a lawyer. Just wanted to share my recent experience. Oh and I had one other ticket on my record from over 5 years ago.
